In Bihar's rail facility, women engineers are playing a leading role in the manufacturing of WAG-12 electric locomotives, among Asia's most powerful rail engines. The facility has completed the construction of 600 locomotives, with production ongoing for additional units. These heavy freight locomotives are designed to haul freight trains while supporting zero-emission, sustainable development across the railway network.

Process engineer Ankita Kumari, who completed her B.Tech from Bihar Engineering College and M.Tech from NIT Patna, stated that she joined the heavy industry plant despite early skepticism from people questioning whether a woman could work in an industrial plant located in a rural area. Overcoming those challenges, she has contributed directly to building 600 locomotives at the facility.

According to the video, after mastering the locomotive manufacturing process herself as a process engineer, Kumari now also oversees a Special Process Training School in Nalanda. There, she trains technicians and personnel in the assembly and manufacturing techniques required for the WAG-12 locomotives, ensuring proper production standards and delivery.

Kumari noted that because these electric locomotives operate without emissions, they contribute directly to green and sustainable transport. Seeing the 600 locomotives operate across railway tracks provides greater professional satisfaction than desk jobs in large metropolitan cities, representing direct participation in advancing the nation's economic development.
