> Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the country's third sleeper Vande Bharat train from Bengaluru. The 16-coach train will operate as an overnight service between Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the Bengaluru–Mumbai Sleeper Vande Bharat Express from Bengaluru railway station. This is the country's third sleeper Vande Bharat train, connecting Karnataka's capital Bengaluru with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The train will operate as an overnight service between both metropolitan hubs, departing at night and arriving at its destination the following morning, ensuring a seamless and comfortable overnight journey for passengers in both directions.

The newly launched sleeper Vande Bharat Express consists of 16 coaches. The rake configuration includes 11 Third AC coaches, four Second AC coaches, and one First AC coach. The entire train has an aggregate passenger carrying capacity of approximately 823 passengers. The launch is expected to bring major relief to working professionals and business travelers who frequently travel between Bengaluru and Mumbai, offering an effective alternative to costly flight tickets and daytime travel.

The fare structure for all three accommodation classes between Bengaluru and Mumbai has also been detailed. A journey in Third AC will cost passengers Rs 2,810 per ticket. For travel in Second AC, the ticket fare has been set at Rs 3,630, while traveling in First AC requires a ticket of Rs 4,450. Passengers can reserve berths across these categories according to their convenience and travel requirements.

The train has been equipped with several modern passenger comfort, convenience, and hygiene features. The coaches feature comfortable berths and seating, modern washrooms, and large panoramic windows designed to provide sweeping views of the passing landscape. During the journey, passengers are served a packaged vegetarian thali comprising chapati, puri, jeera rice, paneer curry, dal fry, pakora, and curd. The packaging of the food tray illustrates the connectivity between the two destinations, displaying Mumbai's Gateway of India and the Taj Hotel alongside the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Additionally, touchless automatic sensor-operated dustbins have been installed inside the coaches. Passengers do not need to make physical contact with the dustbin lid; it opens automatically via motion sensor and closes shut after trash is discarded, minimizing unhygienic contact.

On its inaugural run, the train departed Bengaluru and reached its first stoppage at Hindupur, completing the journey segment in about an hour and a half. While the train will normally operate as an overnight service, the daytime inaugural run allowed passengers to witness the picturesque hills and surrounding scenery through the train's expansive glass windows.

The inaugural service was operated by woman loco pilot Kumari Pallavi. Serving as a Senior Assistant Loco Pilot in the SBC Bengaluru division, Kumari Pallavi shared her operational experience, stating that driving and riding dynamics in this sleeper rake are exceptionally smooth compared to standard train rakes. She noted that even while running at speeds of 130 km/h, passengers inside barely noticed the high speed due to the superior ride quality. She described the opportunity to operate this modern train on its maiden run as a once-in-a-lifetime milestone for herself and her family.
